Marshall Rallies Back From Five Down To Beat Express

(Marshall) – Despite taking a 5-0 lead, and getting solid pitching and defense, the Marshall A’s came from behind to beat the Tracy Express 6-5 on Wednesday night in Marshall.

The A’s and Express met on Whopper Night in Marshall for the second straight year, and for the third time in the last four meetings, it was the Express who took the early lead on Marshall, but the A’s battled back, and escaped with a 6-5 win.

The turning point came in the bottom of the seventh inning, when A’s outfielder Tyler Peschong connected on a two run double, then scored the tying run on a base hit from Derek West to tie the game.

Tracy struck first though, as in the top of the second inning, with Aaron Walling and Troy Kepler on base, Robbie Slinkman hit his second home run of the season.  Blasting a 2-1 pitch, 360 feet over the ivy in left field, putting the Express up 3-0.

Slinkman led the Express offensively, as he finished 3-5 with 3 RBI, the home run, and three runs scored.  Jason MacKinnon, Bryan Francis, and Troy Kepler collected the other three Express hits.

The Express had Eric Hendrickx start on the mound to get him some work before this weekend’s home double header, in which he will start one of the two games.  He left the game after the second inning, and Calvin Kosminskas threw five innings of relief.  Kosminskas was solid on the mound, but Marshall got to him in the seventh, to tie the game.  Andy Lanoue pitched the 8th, and was tagged with the loss for the Express.

Jackson Beats Express In 11

(Jackson) – It went late into the night, but the Jackson Bulls beat the Tracy Express 7-6 in 11 innings on Wednesday night, and ended with a bit of drama.

The Express battled back from a 6-0 deficit, by scoring six runs in the 8th inning to force the game into extra innings.

Calvin Kosminskas started for the Express, he pitched through six innings, while Luke Walling threw three innings of relief, and Andy Lanoue was tagged with the loss in the 11th inning.

After scoring two runs in the first, fourth, and seventh innings, the Bulls had built a 6-0 lead, but the Express battled back by taking advantage of a couple of Bulls errors, and mixing it with a couple of timely doubles from Andrew Suby and Lanoue, each driving in two runs.  The Express then pinch ran Eric Lanoue for Suby after the double, hoping to score and take the lead on a two out base hit, but they never got the hit, and the Express threat ended, with the go ahead run in scoring position.

Sacred Heart Prevails Over Express Despite Eight Errors

(Sacred Heat) – The Tracy Express lost a non league game on Tuesday night in Sacred Heart, falling to the Saints 10-6.  Tracy couldn’t hold on to a 5-0 lead at the start of the game, and wound up taking the loss, as the Saints used a seven run fifth inning to claim the lead from the Express.

Casey Polzine made his first start on the mound for the Express, and threw four and a third innings, allowing five runs (two earned), on four hits, while striking out one and walking four.  Derek Webb took the loss in 2/3 of an inning of relief for the Express, and Troy Kepler finished off the game for Tracy.

The Express got started the right way, taking advantage of three Sacred Heart errors in the first inning, to score three runs, with hits from Andrew Suby and Aaron Walling.  They led the Express offensive attack in the contest, Suby was 2-4 with a double, and an RBI, while Walling finished 2-5 in the game.

Tracy pushed the lead to 5-0 when Calvin Kosminskas, hitting in only his second game of the year, smashed a two run homer of the left field fence.

The Saints finally got a run off of Polzine in the third, a leadoff walk came around to score on an Express error, but Polzine responded with a scoreless fourth inning on the mound.  With a 5-1 lead, Polzine attempted to go back out for the 5th inning, but was fighting fatigue, and after an error to lead off the inning and a walk, the Saints followed with a double, to score both.  Derek Webb came in to relieve Polzine with two on base and one out, but he was unable to get out of the jam, before the Saints scored seven runs in the inning and stole the lead.

The loss for the Express dropped them to 6-12 on the season.  The Express play again on Wednesday against the Jackson Bulls in Jackson.

Express Fall In a Pitcher’s Duel To Heron Lake

(Heron Lake) – The Tracy Express lost a tough pitchers duel on Sunday, falling 2-1 to Heron Lake Sunday afternoon on the road.

Express pitcher Eric Hendrickx did his part, holding the Lakers to two runs on four hits on the afternoon, but the Express couldn’t find a way to string anything together, and despite outhitting the Lakers, fell in a 2-1 ball game.

The big difference was the bottom of the seventh inning, when Heron Lake got a lead off walk, and followed that up with a one out double, and then moments later a two out single to take a 2-0 lead.

The Express battled back in the 8th, as Casey Polzine beat out an infield hit, and stole second base.  He moved to third when Andrew Suby reached on an error, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Andy Lanoue.  But on the play Suby was thrown out trying to advance to third, and that ended the Express threat in the 8th.
